The abuse of cocaine and crack is a concern for local law enforcement agencies and also rehab facilities throughout Maryland.  Crack cocaine use is heaviest in the western part of the state and also along the eastern shore.  Not only has its use become a concern but the violence that surrounds the drug trade has as well. The cocaine that is imported into Maryland comes mostly from the southwest region of the United States, New York City and Atlanta.

Heroin abuse is extremely problematic in Maryland, especially in the Baltimore area. In fact, Baltimore is known as one of the most heroin infested cities in the United States.  The drug is incredibly addictive and dangerous.  Users are also at risk for catching and passing on infectious diseases such as HIV and hepatitis.  Abuse of heroin occurs not only amongst older adults but also teenagers and those in their early twenties.

Methamphetamine can be found in Maryland. However, it is not a predominant drug or one that poses a huge threat.  In fact, it is not a drug that is much of a concern at all.  It can be difficult to even find meth in some parts of Maryland.

Ecstasy is the most popular club drug in the state.  It is popular amongst those who can attend raves and who go clubbing.  

The drug that is abused most Maryland is marijuana.  It is readily available.  Some of it is grown in the western part of the state and also around the eastern shore.  Parklands and farmlands are where some of it is cultivated as well.  However, the majority of marijuana sold in Baltimore comes from Mexico.

 Xanax, Oxycontin, Methadone and other Hydrocodone based products, are problematic as it concerns pharmaceutical drug abuse. These are primarily obtained via prescription forgery, theft, doctors shopping and the internet.
