Ecstasy Mixing

February 6, 2010

Mixing drugs of any type can be dangerous. Most times individuals are not educated enough about what drugs they can and cannot take together or mix. When they don’t consider the consequences or know enough to make safe decisions, they put themselves at risk of becoming extremely ill and even dying.

There is always a risk when individuals combine ecstasy with other drugs, even prescription medications.  Individuals who use ecstasy should steer clear of MAOI’s. MAOI’s are often found in anti-depressants.  Taking these drugs together can be dangerous.  Individuals who are taking Ritonavir, those with liver or kidney disease, high blood pressure, heart disease or who have had a stroke or aneurysm should also avoid using ecstasy.  Taking ecstasy with other stimulants can also be dangerous.

Another element of danger exists because most ecstasy is not pure but mixed with other drugs, some which can be dangerous. Most ecstasy that is purchased on the street or in clubs is tainted with something. Individuals run the risk of dangerously mixing drugs and may not even know it, if they are takeing what they think is ecstasy and another drug.

Many people enjoy mixing drugs because they are able to get a more potent high or to get a certain desired effect. Sometimes this works out fine. Other times it does not. When it doesn’t, things can turn out very badly. The best case scenario is that the person simply feels bad. The worst case scenario is that the individual dies. Almost everyone has heard stories about either someone they know, or know of, dying of a drug overdose. Individuals that take ecstasy should be careful about mixing it with other drugs because there are so many unknowns. Taking them with MAOI’s is especially known to be dangerous. Using them with other stimulants is also not recommended. Please note, this is not an exhaustive list and this should not be taken as medical advice by a medical professional.

Because there is no list of approved drugs to take with ecstasy, many people get their information from the internet and friends. Sometimes these individuals don’t’ know much more then the person asking them for advice does. Subsequently, this often isn’t the best route to take. The internet is another popular way that people get information. Unfortunately, the same problem exists, misinformation can prove harmful and even fatal.
